Creative Climate Cities is pleased to announce their 4th place in the architecture competition redesigning the federal road B14 in the team led by LAUX Architects.
The competition brief was to design a new, attractive urban space along the federal road B14 cutting through the City of Stuttgart. The city’s goal is to minimize the traffic volume and the existing traffic area by 50%, to create a quality of stay between Marienplatz and the Schwanenplatztunnel and to eliminate the separation effect of the B14.
The project team led by Ina & Gunther Laux Architects, in cooperation with CCC, Prof. Wilko Manz, Inovaplan GmbH, and Michael Glück Landscape Architecture, planned the redesign and conversion of the B14 federal highway into a central, pulsating and urban city street. This included the implementation of 5 new city squares, 1000 additional trees and 500,000 m² of green space. The jury especially commended the project team for the traffic planning concept as well as the convincing bicycle infrastructure concept.

Creative Climate Cities supported the planning team in developing the systematic approach for a resilience strategy for the new urban space(s). They also designed a complex toolbox of spatial, social and technological solutions to integrate the different infrastructure systems. In the CCC approach, the redesign of the separating federal road in Stuttgart is rooted in the hybrid functions of the newly created urban spaces to allow for flexibility and resilience.
