Quelle: phase eins, 2020

The Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Community (BMI) is promoting the design and implementation of integrated smart city solutions in German municipalities. The basic objectives of the programme "Smart Cities Model Projects" is to empower public actors and to apply digitalisation to nurture sustainable and integrated urban development, oriented towards the common good in order to maintain and increase the quality of life of citizens.

From September 2021, the Smart City Coordination and Transfer Office (KTS) will take over the overall project management, evaluation and knowledge transfer within the funded projects and across the municipal landscape on behalf of the Federal Ministry.

Within the framework of a Europe-wide call for tenders, a consortium of several renowned institutions was commissioned, including: Institutes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) under the leadership of the DLR project management agency, the Fraunhofer Institutes IAO and IESE, the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu), Creative Climate Cities (CCC), KWB, Urban Catalyst, bbh, Prognos AG and other partners.

Creative Climate Cities (CCC) accompanies the knowledge transfer of the model projects as a co-lead partner and supports the dissemination of core competencies for the design of tools for digital sustainable urban development.
