Co-Creating Urban Greening: Strategies and Formats for the City of Mannheim

Commit2Green (C2G) supports eight European cities in developing integrated and participatory greening strategies that promote climate neutrality and urban resilience. The focus is on the systematic integration of nature-based solutions at the neighborhood and city level. Funded by the EU as part of Horizon Europe, the project places particular emphasis on the joint development and implementation of these measures with local stakeholders in order to anchor them effectively and sustainably in urban planning processes.
Creative Climate Cities (CCC) is supporting the city of Mannheim as a local implementation partner. Given the high level of soil sealing and the large proportion of private land in the city center, there is a particular challenge here for the implementation of greening measures. To address this, CCC is developing participatory formats that bring nature-based solutions to life and encourage local stakeholders to implement their own projects. As part of the project, an interactive city walk is planned to highlight successful nature-based solutions in Mannheim and demonstrate the potential of existing areas using future scenarios.
Twenty-five organisations and partners from Barcelona, The Hague, Mannheim, Milan, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, Vejle and Warsaw are involved in the Commit2Green project. In Mannheim, CCC works closely with the city administration and local networks such as City Factory Mannheim and Begrünungsnetzwerk Mannheim to successfully integrate nature-based solutions into the city centre and bring green transformation to life.
