Silent Spaces – digital Scrollytelling

Silent Spaces - Loud Message - Interactive Scrollytelling for Urban Communication

Silent Spaces, Loud Message is a digital and spatial communication project developed as part of the Women in Architecture Festival 2025. The project focuses on the topic of public toilets, an often overlooked yet socially highly relevant part of urban infrastructure. Taking the iconic Berlin Café Achteck as a starting point, the project opens up new perspectives on questions of access, inclusion, design, and circular economy in public space.
Creative Climate Cities developed the concept, curated the content, and implemented both the digital and spatial format. This included the concept and editorial work for the interactive scrollytelling website, the development of the design narrative, and the organization of a public workshop held directly at Café Achteck in Berlin-Kreuzberg. You can find the result here.
The project positions itself as a digital communication and participation approach to address complex urban issues. It combines digital storytelling with in-person exchange, engages diverse target groups, and relies on creative participation. In this way, complex content becomes tangible and emotionally accessible, opening up new entry points for engagement.
With this format, we are testing a scalable approach to show how digital storytelling can highlight urban issues and promote participation beyond the scope of the festival.
