Expert advisory services for sustainable digital urban development

Hands-on consulting in smart city model municipalities

Nadine Kuhla von Bergmann, Creative Climate Cities, 2023

The expert advice provided by the Coordination and Transfer Centre for Smart Cities Model Projects (KTS) offers individual and practical support for funded smart city municipalities in Germany. The municipalities are supported by the KTS in developing strategies, defining measures and during implementation. The aim is to design and implement digital solutions for sustainable urban development that is centred on the common good.

The counselling sessions are practice-oriented, co-creative workshops and take place at regular intervals online or on site with the municipalities.

Creative Climate Cities advises and supports more than a dozen of the subsidised municipal "Smart Cities model projects" in this way. The advice focuses on strategy and project development, communication and participation as well as the development of impact measurement models and the continuation of measures.

The Smart Cities pilot projects are funded by the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction (BMWSB). Consortium partners in the implementation include: Institutes of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) under the leadership of the DLR Project Management Agency, the Fraunhofer Institutes IAO and IESE, the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu), Creative Climate Cities, KWB, Urban Catalyst, bbh, Prognos AG and other partners.
